Google and Facebook Sued for Social-Networking Patent

Google and Facebook have been sued by a data company from New York for infringement of a patent that allows users to participate in social networks on mobile phones.

Wireless Ink Corp. has Winksite site service and told that both Facebook and Google Mobile Buzz use a patent issued in October 2009. In a complaint submitted to a court in Manhattan, company wants to get compensation and a court order preventing use of the services offered by the two companies charged.

The patent relates to arrangements to provide content to mobile phones through Facebook and Buzz said Jeremy Pitcock, a lawyer for Wireless Ink. Application for the patent was initiated in 2004; Google and Facebook therefore knew about this, added the lawyer, according to businessweek.com.

Andrew Pederson, spokesman for Google, said Google is currently investigating the complaint and has no comment on that process.
